Procrastinating due to disbelieve

I had this thought about procrastination the other day. Usually people think about being lazy, needing to do something hard, being addicted to quick dopamine wins etc. as the common cause for this behaviour. But when I look back at my hardships over the past years I think a large part of it was believe. Specifically not believing in the things I was doing. For example my computer science degree, everything was done forcefully. When I look back I noticed that I didn’t really believe in the reason why I was getting my degree. My dream life could have started way before finishing this study, but fear and anxiety kept me on track … and required time I could not invest in the things I actually wanted to do. This reasoning is most likely not the only cause, I mean the points mentioned earlier probably also had an effect, but I can’t stop thinking about this inner disbelief making it so much harder to take action.

Dealing with procrastination

So next time when you’re procrastinating something try to think for the reasoning on why you’re doing the thing and if your inner believe aligns with it. And I’m not saying abandon all senses and go YOLO mode in life, we still have obligations and financial requirements we need to adhere to. But this might put things into perspective and make your procrastination behaviour easier to understand.
